I remember back in 2012 when I started my fashion journey. Social media was not as relevant to nearly what it is today. As a consultant, I relied on many different stores to experience clothing on a physical level. Don't get me wrong as much as I love online shopping to me there is nothing like walking into a store and really understanding "hey this dress doesn't really fit as well as I thought". (Rolls eye)
Back then, you wouldn't even think of your favorite store closing down. Little did we know what the future had in stores. Today my friend's things have changed a whole lot. Slowly, brick and motor stores are fading away stores such as Joe Fresh, Abercrombie & Fitch, Sears, Toys R US (I literally teared up) have faced a massive decrease in store sales.
What's the cause of this? online shopping of course. Raise your hand if you rather online shop than walk into a store?...I'll wait
Online shopping has changed the user experience completely. People are more confined to shopping from there phone or laptop. Think about it your home it's comfortable who cares if the jeans don't fit you can simply return them!
This year's fashion summit presented by Decoded was the perfect outlet to understand just what the fashion world is facing.
Simply breathtaking. In one room were top executives from top retailers such as Conde Nast, Ralph Lauren, Instagram (dude literally the who's of who) all together to speak upon the shape of the fashion industry, the growth of fast fashion and listening to top influencers speak on what's next for fashion.
I consumed so much information and I'm truly excited to share!
Here's a quick recap:
Stefan Larsson was amazing to watch! He spoke on the good, the bad and the ugly within the industry. He expressed how consumers are viewing brands in another light. Consumers want things at a higher demand which means more technology needs to be enforced. Brands need to focus on understanding today's consumer, the people that are tech savvy and want things now. It was refreshing to hear him say, "Focus on something you can control rather than big companies".
Quick Fire Panel Forecasting Fashion's Future:
What does the future hold for fashion? During the "Quick Fire Panel", these fours amazing women spoke upon fast fashion, how technology has provided growth within there platforms and the importance of data.
Day 2 consisted of beauty and tech, unfortunately, I didn't attend. BUT I'm so grateful for the Decoded team for allowing me to stop by.
This is only the half, be sure to head over to Decoded and learn more about everything fashion and tech.
#Let'sChat Do you work in fashion? How is technology affecting fashion in your world?
My mood was to be comfortable yet chic. I can't lie, prior to walking in and capturing these photos I felt underdressed. I saw people walking in "corporate style". I thought, "Oh no should I be in Slacks?". LOL. But no rest assured I felt relieved when I saw someone else in jeans. Peep the details below:
- Jacket: H&M
- Sweater: Zara
- Jeans: H&M
- Boots: Shoe Dazzle
- Hat: Men's Zara
